My father has been using my D6C clearing 15 acres of small Box Elder & Poplar trees that I'd like to turn back into a farmable lot that I can lease out to a farmer until I'm ready to use it for my own gardening purposes. 5-10 years from now. I just want to keep it in plowable shape, right now it's a rooty mess.

I could sure use a root rake.

Did anyone ever make any root rakes that would attach to my blade?

I believe what I have is an "S" blade?

Yeah, this would be nice:

Hello over the Pond, Walkin Stick [Root ]Rakes are very common over here in QLD , only take a few Minutes to attach . Machine your size would be fitted with up to a 20 foot unit. but a 15-16 ft would probably suit your work . I had a 24 ft on a D8K. You could also make a Rake to Clamp on bottom of Blade , maybe remove Cutting edge and Bolt on there or just make some heavy duty clamps on either side . Tynes about 10-12 inches long and same apart. We also in the Brigalow Country fit Cutters about 3-4 inches from bottom to cut off Suckers. Sorry I don't think I have a photo I could post DJCAT may have some ,I will be seeing Him in a few Days . someone ought to have a pin-on rake you could borrow. We have one on an old 9U straight blade that's real nice.

Used to be an outfit that had some for sale on ebay that were a lot lighter, but still might work OK. Look at this search on ebay..........

How about a tow behind ripper? That would work too.

Anyone have a picture of a pin on rake that was made for a D6C with my blade?

Is that what the holes on the side of the blade are for? (Always thought they were lifting holes)

Or how about a couple scans from a CAT parts manual?

Did CAT make a pin on rake, or only a full up rake blade?

My blade rake pins on with only two pins. It swings out for back blading. It works great.

Works good to get roots small brush that the blade misses, also works good for cleaning up loose rock.It pins to brackets which are welded to blade. My brackets are made of 3/4 steel, you can buy brackets from root rake companys that you just have to weld on.You can make pin on rake off of many different dozers work . I payed 1,500 dollers for mine used but in very good condition with very light ware on teeth . Have put about 2000 hrs. on this one and works better the dryer the dirt is.

Mine is like SSSSSteamers, both of us live in the Pac. N.W. where the weeds will be 50' if you don't maintain it.

Having one that is on the blade is best, it won't clog in between the tractor and the tines that you would have with a tow behind.
Also one that can pivot rather than be locked down, you can then back blade like SSSSteamer said.
Mine is on a taller blade than SSSSSteamers so I can roll it up, out of the way and forward blade or release the locks and rake. When its in the up position it acts as a cage to keep brush and other undesirables off the limb risers or hood. Kinda handy

Yeah, the pivoting rake does look like something I could use.

I may go talk to the guy that I bought the thumb for my excavator from, he has a lot of stuff like that, maybe he has one I can attach somehow.

Also plenty of manufacturers listed in the paper copy of Machinery Trader, might be on their website as well.

I'd really like something like this, with upper brush guard:

http://www.machinerytrader.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=7016584

But from what I have seen, a used unit of that size goes for ~$3000-$5000.

No way I'm going to pay that.

I may have to design up my own and build it myself. All depends on how much the steel cutting service is.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
