Bill, I felt the same way when I bought my 933. It seemed there weren't that many around, and when I did see one, they were just this side of the scrap pile. I do see a few of 955s, but they are much more contemporary than yours. Mostly, the ones I see are also beat pretty badly, but once in a while you can find a gem. 955s used to be THE machine around here for every small excavating contractor, and as such, were the all-around machine that was used daily, thus "used up." Just like any new aquisition, keep your eyes open, now that you own one, they will suddenly appear as frequently as sunshine. 😄
Bill, I can see mine out the window this morning. Will get you a pic and a serial number later on. It is a direct start, but otherwise same as yours.
Jim
Hi Bill,
Due to all the new smog laws being put in place a lot of the older CAT machinery is being shipped overseas (better selling price). My 951C was one saved from being shipped out. The other 3 track loaders (955 and (2) 951's) that were sitting next to the one I bought went to Asia for work (not scrap).
CA is getting so restrictive that I've noticed used CAT machinery listed on Ebay here in CA is regularly listed as for sale out of state only.
Bob,
Wow, could be?!?! Your old machine? The fellow I bought it from - bought it from the Allentown Auto Auction (Pennsylvania). Are you from that area?
Bill Glenn
Hey Jim,
Thanks for posting that picture. Great looking machine! That's the one - a 12A. Is your machine operational?
Bill Glenn
Yes Bill, it is a good working machine. We had to relign the steering brakes and clean the radiator, but it works good. Probably the most famous 12A series 955 would have been Al Smiths. At least I think it is a 12A. Some one probably has a picture of it handy. I'll see if I can find one. Good luck with yours, Bruce is right about more showing up once you buy one. When I was first looking for a Cat pull type grader, couldn't seem to find one anywhere close, but once the first one showed up there seemed to be lots of them around.
