I know what you mean because I have thought about building one except with a detuned d318 (9U) motor it would be a head turner. I know a r series and 9u series motors have the same chasis so it should go but that's if you don't have a speical bell housing. But I'll keep an eye for a parts book hahaha!😄

I've thought about the putting in a D318 also. My plan there would be to make it direct electric start then the D4 bellhousing would work for sure. The batteries would just go were the pony would as they did. I still think with some slyte modifications the pony would fit. I have a spare D6 pony so in the spring when I dig it out I'm going to see if it would fit a D4 bellhousing. The idea is to make one to pull a pan for more power and to have an oddball machine.
