Personally on my D4 7U, I replaced the original seats with original type again, with no arm rests, and only with the side cushions on the arms. On the larger Cats like my D8 14 A, again I went with stock seats. They worked well originally and Cat had that in mind when they were first installed. On my new John Deere tractor/loader, I have air suspension for my seat and that is really nice when I am traveling. When I am working in the gravel pit, air suspension doesn't really make much of a difference.
Go stock, that's what we Run on all our stuff and we get the cat cushions from John Hahn. His stuff is way more comfortble then the original cushions but looks the same or better. I highly recommend him!😄
Well good luck fellow CAT lover!😄
Thanks, guys. Somehow my search on the BB missed the December conversation about John Hahn's seats. Got it now.
I can't dump $500 into a seat. But I checked out some aftermarket seats and they're just cheap Chinese garbage. Can't do it.
Guess I'll rebuild the one I have....
The price you got locally was cheap. I spent $300.00 locally for seats for my RD-6 and I made the new boards and furnished the foam. Next time I will use Hahn seats.
Call John Hahn and work something out, you will be happy you did.
Just my thoughts
Frank😊
If you want to deviate from a stock seat, you might look at K&M Manufacturing. The seats they sell are best suited for wheel tractors but some would easily adapt to a crawler. Many of their seats are made in USA. I have had good luck with the ones mfg here. K&M Mfg., (800) 328-1752. www.tractorseats.com
You menioned Logging with that tractor on the other thread. Sounds like a work tractor that the seat is going to get wet, poked and worked hard. My recommendation is to buy something that is affordable and comfortable for you and don't worry if its not original. Besides if it gets vandalized out on a site at least you won't be out the price of a Hann seat.
I've had several seats rebuilt by a local upholstery shop, cost is around $130 for both seat and seat back. The nice thing is that I can specify the foam he uses, one that's soft enough to pad my skinny old carcass well enough that I don't feel like I've been beat up after a day. The same thing goes for the side cushions, a fairly soft thicker than usual foam. Keeps from beating up my old hip bones 😆
I like to keep the old critter looking stock but then I like my comfort too.
Arm rest are a must if you're working the slopes!😄
