Hi OM,
You were right this is the 17A i purchased a few years ago.I was pretty excited with it especially with a fresh rebuilt engine and all.
I really picked up a lot of great info from all the comments from my previous post.I always had some vibration with this machine but was unable to pin point the cause, I'm pretty sure now that it was the flywheel and u-joint miss aligned.I plan on going through the entire machine and taking care of all the small repairs that is needed.I can take my time and do it right, since i have a back up 17A.I've enjoyed running this one for the last week.I traded for it last year (OM you were right again the governor on this one was a little slow but fresh oil,Lucas additive and a little run time solved the problem).
I've also been trying my hand with a track hoe. It's a lot of fun too!!!!
It really makes quick time for removing trees.I'll keep you posted on the engine rebuild.I'll probably have lots of question.

OM, i don't think I've tried reverse.

The one I'm using now is very noisy in 2nd gear forward but reverse is fine.. so distance runs i go reverse.

Hey I had a 9U that did that in every gear and what would that be bearings or other things?

Just in forward in reverse nothing was wrong ?

Thanks JR

dd8, glad to hear your going to fix it right. A couple years ago I bought two D8's. One already had a hole in the block and the other had a #5 rod knock. I wanted to take short cuts but the guys on the BB talked me into doing it right. It cost about 6K but I rebuilt the entire engine and now she's a strong runner 😄 .

#5 crank journal was about .020 out of round so I turned every journal .050 under. #5 also had a bent rod. So maybe they put a bent rod back in your engine and it quickly wore out the journal again.

I took out the oil tube and pressure washed all kinds of crap out 😮 . I was really surprised to find that much junk built up in the passages. The rear main was so restricted that it just allowed a small jet of hot water to pass through it. After reassembling the oil tube and crank I had a nightmare about about it plugging up and spinning a bearing. So I pulled the crank back out and cleaned everything one more time and flushed it with oil. Ya it was extra work but I was able to sleep good that night 😄 .

Mike ,that i realy good job o the8 what series as it?
dd8 it would great if you rebuild the engie, these machine can provide alot working years if the engine is in good shape You should be ble to get your parts fairly inexpensive.

Rd6 plower,
Forward gears tend to transmit through the front of the transmission and utilize the idler. Reverse gears tend to be more towards the back of the transmission and transmit through the shorter output shaft.

Noise and failure is a progressive thing. Starts with worn bearings....then becomes worn gear tooth patterns and worn shafts......if left without repairs, spun bearing races and case failure can/will occur.

A missing gear may be a shifter fork issue or stripped gear teeth. Also not unheard of to leave a gear out of the transmission.

ali, it a 1951 High Output 2U13,000. Attached is a pic of when I first bought it.

RD6, it would be awesome to truck the old girl up their and push some scrapers but I might try and go to the Fling in Oklahoma over Memorial Day. When thats done the big tractor show in Santa Margarita fires up. Hopefully I'll be doing some trucking for Tom and other. My candy ass likes the KW better than the D8, it doesn't through fist fulls of dirt in your face 😉

But if I can't make it I could always let JR Ponte finish breaking it in for me 😄
