We were visting famliy this weekend in Wisconsin and thought I'd swing by and look at Bob Stewerts Holt 75. Sitting on the front wheel of the 75 was the 1st prodotype High clearance sprocket. Could not belive it. I know he was talking about it a while back but had no idea that he was going to go through with it. Sure looks good! Also as you can see the new dirt guard that is a formed piece not 2 parts welded. It's going back to the machine shop to have the spline's cut in the hub Monday. Mike

When Bob had it casted do you have to have one that is mint to cast from or can they fix it in the mold before they pour the new one?

Bob had a pattern made. Because of the shrinkage of steel when you pour it. A pattern has to be made 1/4 inch bigger per foot to allow for skrinkage. Mike

When a pattern maker makes a pattern he uses what is called a "shrink rule" or some places called a "pattern makers ruler" that still reads like a normal rule but has been scaled for this shrinkage for the particular material being cast. As stated steel is 1/4" per foot cast iron is 1/8" per foot.

That's some fine workmanship Bob. Are they going to be cast steel? Is the machine shop going to machine the sprocket teeth and heat treat the teeth also?

Certainly looks like a good job never underestimate the skill of a pattern maker it is almost a lost art today compared to the foundry work done in years past.
Hiwide 15 you have my attention can you please post more detail on the two speed Best sproket reffered to in your post. This is just for those like me who have never seen a Best tractor and some of us likely never will.

That's nice to know that the sprockets will be better than the originals Bob.
