Holt 500 winch

My D-2 5J has a Holt model 500 winch which was installed by the last guy. The winch looks and works great exept for the fact that it is geared too high. does anyone know if there is a way to change the gearing or have any litterature on it? I havn't torn into it yet and don't realy want to if I don't know that I can slow it down.
