Caterpillar service awards

I have been collecting the Cat service award pins and would like a source of info on the years awarded.

There appears to be three major designs:

A earlier version is a medal (about the size of a dime with a tracklayer at the top, Caterpillar written across the middle just below the tractor, under that the number of years service and a wreath around the outside edge originating at the bottom and ending at the tractor on top of the medal.

A later version is the same size and basic design but with the triangle under the word Caterpillar.

The latest design is a globe with Caterpillar and years service but no wreath.

I would like to know if there are any earlier designs and also the years that these designs were used. I suspect the globe was used in the late nineties to date and the design with the triangle in the Cat logo would help determine the earliest years it was used but beyond that I don't have a clue.

I emailed the Caterpillar PR department but was referred to my local Cat dealer and he knows even less than I do about the subject.

Does anyone know or know where I can find this information. I would like to make up a little display in time for the ACMOC national thing in Virginia or maybe Pawnee,OK.

Thanks,
Tom

Tom,

The different types of service award badges used by Cat over the years, would make a good feature for a future issue of the ACMOC magazine.

I have seen a few different award badges listed on ebay over the years, but I never bothered to place a bid on any of them.

Hi David,

I currently have 13 different medals within the three styles that range from 5 to 35 year awards and sterling silver to 10 and 14K gold with and without diamonds. It's very interesting to see the variations and the progression of the design over time. I thought it might make a nice display especially for people interested in Caterpillar at one of our national get togethers.

Thanks for the positive comment and have a nice weekend,

Tom
