I called my local dealer today about getting old yellow paint, I provided the part # listed by ACMOC 4C4185 for gallons & whatever was listed for spray bombs. The answer was one week lead for gallons($75 USD) because they come from the manufacture in CASES, and spray bombs are discontinued." This is very irritating" was my kindest thought. Please, is it just my dealer, or is it going around the country like this. I would prefer to use Cat paint because of paint matching, formerly modest pricing, ease of use. Thanks for any information

Hello I am still getting The Cat highway yellow from Petersen Cat in San Leandro Ca. Part number is 2066417 in the spray can . I do not know for the gallon. They will ship fast and cheap. Recently Cat changed the can tops from white to the newer cat color, Perhaps the parts guy was going by the cap like all other paint cans come. Why Cat would put the top of a spray can a different color than the paint in the can is beyond me. The phone number is 510-357-6200 Good luck, Paul.

I had one of the original lead paint gallons of CAT old yellow I used for my latest D2. But a gallon wasn't enough, so I ordered a case of spray cans from AERVOE Industries.

Select the #167 CAT YELLOW, which is the old yellow. You have to buy a case. Ends up being around $72 with shipping. It matches good enough to my gallon of CAT yellow I had on hand. FYI, I e-mailed them and they don't sell the paint by the gallon, only the spray cans.

Also, before ordering from AERVOE, I did some searching and did find that Krylon sells a OLD CAT yellow by the gallon. Best price I found was $32 a gallon, but I didn't have any previous experience with the paint, but I did with Aervoe's, so I opted for the Aervoe spray cans.

Here was someone selling the Krylon paint:

I second the Rustoleum Old Cat Yellow. Real nice paint. About $20 -$30 per gallon. They will have to order it but the good news is that you don't pay shipping.... And it comes in spray cans for touch up.

Thanks for the wide replys. I didn't think of Arvoe, I have used them for military paint. I bought through a dealer on the East coast several years ago as it was actually cheaper than direct, due to the cost of shipping paint ORMD & he ordered in bulk. I will look into the Rustolium I guess, I'm thinking that when gallons & spray come from the same company there is a better chance at matching. I was surprised that Shirwin-Williams said they could only mix their own paint codes.

we use ICU paints, they used to be called Gliden paints, they can mix up any paint and any color. We use an industrial paint with an exterior tank primer. it has worked well for us thus far.

For the Ca. folks, paint purchase has become a little more complicated due to the low...low VOC requirements. Did some research on the Rustoleum products and was given these numbers for Ca. compliant Old Cat Yellow:
Gallons #7448402
Matching rattle cans #62247937
Of course the price has gone up...now $35-$40 per gallon.
This is still your basic alkyd enamel (as sold by many). It's not bad paint but no match for the Cat original.

O.M.

I think your Rustoleum numbers are off. I have the following,

7449402 is the Rustoleum number for gallons. You have to order in multiples of 2.
7449502 is for quarts. You have to order in multiples of 2.
7449830 is for the spray can. You have to order in multiples of 6. Home Depot SKU # is 268-038 Price was 3.35 per can.

Here is the link

Why do you say that is is no match for the CAT original? Shade is off? Durability???

As best I can remember, the old Cat yellow was a one-shot paint for tractor and implement. It didn't yield the finish that automotive paint produces, but man, did it ever last!

I don't know about all of you, but I'm all for a one-shot paint. cold day in the bad place I'm going to prime, sand, paint and rub on a tractor. A motorcycle or classic car maybe, but a tractor never.
