I am replacing the steering clutches on my D 2 5J. I separated the left hand final drive case from the main casting with the help of a hammer, sharp chisel and two 3 ton hydralic jacks. However, the right side so far has not moved when I used these same methods on it. I do not want to break anything expensive. Does anybody have any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Dogger

Hey Dogger, there are many, many replies to this problem. Go to the "Search" option in the bulletin board, and type in "D2 steering clutches". There is a lot of information that address your problem. Best of luck, they can be a bugger. John

Did it steer at all or did you buy it with stuck clutches? Did you take the drain plugs out of the steering housings? Were they dry or full of water?
The one you got apart is it dry rust? These questions will help formulate the plan of attack that you'll need to use to formulate a solution to your problem.
One quick thing to tell you to do is to loosen the mounts on both sides for the shaft that the track frames ride on. Then hit it down with a BFH. I found mine to be "stuck" on that shaft until I hit it with a sledge hammer.
