Can anybody tell me what model of Cat engine this is
Model 9L-5136,
Serial # 65B- 9414
I found three of them in a scrap yard, one of them came out off a Madill Steel spar, looks like a D343, Ken
Thanks Bruce, One looks in real nice shape, will try and get pics, Ken
Yes indeed the 65B is the 1693 as Bruce said and they were a spin off from the D343 overhead cam engine. The were a real work horse of a truck engine back in their day and I have rebuilt and worked on lot of them at the dealer I worked for. I rebuilt one that had 880,000 miles on it and it threw a bearing or would have went longer. He was a local guy so I did an in frame work on it before but that was a long life engine. His engine had the rack opened up so when I dyno tested it after rebuilding it it put out 550 HP and probably more but I shut it down at the 550.He had it set up for western moumtain driving he said and said no one out pulled it on those western mountains. The owner passed away several years ago so I never knew what became of the truck and was a tilt cab KW. Back then the engines weren,t quite as easy on fuel and oil as later engines but that,s where it stopped. Also the 1693s were a little slower on the get away but a mile down the road you better get out of the way.
