New Cat D2 owner was created by Cysco
Well I finally found a Cat D2 and am now the "proud" owner. I brought her home this weekend. Here are a few pictures so tell me what ya think. The Serial number is D2 5U 17900. I can't read the hour meter very well as it has a film of something on it. This is my first Cat and I know I have a lot to learn. So get ready for the questions. One of the pics shows me learning how a pony motor can be tempermental.

CYSCO,
WOW,what a nice tractor.
That one is almost the twin brother to the one I have 5u17959 only the one I have is equipped with a toolbar dozer instead of the 2a like your's.
I would hate to quess what you had to pay for that thing.
Whenever I see a late model d2 I get all shakey and excited to the point that the price don't matter, let's just load it up!
Anyway, you sure got purchased a great little tractor that is going to give you hours and hours of fun.
Be careful now and what ever you do,DON'T SCRATCH THAT PAINT.
Take care: COMPRESSOR

That thing's as snug as a bug in a rug:D

Looks like all it needs is a job to do so you can get it good and hot and clean up the exhaust a bit.

D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D

Looks really good! What seems to make the pony temperamental usually turns out to be the carburetor needing cleaned and or adjusted. The electric starter on the pony is a real plus too. .it can save a lot of sweat and cussing.

That thing should carry a blade nicley with what looks like a five roller uc. on it. Very nice looking little dozer!!! I had some problems with the carb on my d4 and just pulled the top off the carb and cleaned it with carb cleaner and blew out with air real good and runs good now. A little dirt or rust can be agrivating. Good luck. Jason

Thanks for the positive comments.I found the D2 in Pennsylvania and traded for it that evening. I had been looking for a long time and from reading the posts here I had a better idea of what to look for and what to avoid. I am far from any type of an expert but am learning. My first project appears to be what Jason did with his carb on the D4 as I cannot get fuel to the pony carb now. The D2 was kept in a heated shop for the last 20 years and had a lot of maintenance work done to it over the years (receipts in hand).

Your post made me smile because when I brought the D2 up to my shop Mom came out and she immedietaly started telling me stories of Dad and the D2 they bought when they first got married. She said he would swear at the pony motor with every pull of the cord......

Cysco, did you pay the asking price?I was going to look at that one but I already have 2-D2's,didn't really need one more.Good luck.If you ever need the carb rebuilt on the pony motor there is a fellow out in Ill. that does a great job and not bad on price.
