It was down below zero so we used the old space heater to help warm the engine

and skidding logs last January, we have red fir trees in the woods near the house that were infested with bark beatles, logging before the bugs come out in march prevents them from spreading.

this dozer also does a few dirt moving projects in summer and on multi-day jobs we try to park on a hill with the blade propped so it can be coast started.

this cat has been in my family since 1950, seen here in the early 50s as an ag cat pulling a cultivator

by 1960 a holt blade was purchased, and it became a dozer

Great pictures and what a wonderful idea for warming up the block prior to starting. I'm converting my D7-17A to direct start and although I like the circulating heater idea, this seems even better!

We would put those torpedo heaters under the radiator pointed at the block and leave the tarp on. That way it would heat the oil and since heat rises, the rest of the block too! This also warms up your transmission a little bit.
As the CATs were usually parked outside, all you had to do was wait for the snow to melt on top and it was or should be warm enough to go.

Great pics. How many hours are on that machine? Also, why did you remove the lights as some point?

Thanks for posting the picture links.

I could use that dozer right about now, we recieved a little over 2' since yesterday here at Tahoe, Heavenly ski resort which is up aginist a ridge is saying they got closer to 3' in the past 24 hrs with a total of 8' in the last 10 days.

What did that seat tank come off of?

Hope I can keep my cell signal long enough to get this to post.

Hello NIF,
Nice looking dozer you have there. The fuel tank you have on it does not appear to be original but, whoever did the retrofit, sure did a nice job. Is that fuel tank a cat tank or a home made one.

Nice pictures... Where in Idaho are you at? I am in Coeur d'Alene and we have a total of 50 inches so far and more on the way. I am so tired from running a snowblower right now but it does beat shoveling... The plow on my Scout has already had to be repaired for the first time this year. This past week I have had to put the shop here on hold and help my elderly nieghbors keep thier driveways clear, not much money in it but it is nice to get extra cookies for Christmas! Everybody take care, be safe and have an EXCELLENT NEW YEAR!
