Not in calif but---
Look around for closed/abandon foundries--big or small

Over the years we have had 2 big foundries close.
would sometimes go exploring to see what we could see.
The casting sand was in piles.
Could have hauled off all I could carry!

It was yellowish and stickey.
Do not know if it was usable or not.
My guess is that it is graded sand with something added.
Dont realy know!

Good luck
David

Ole-Magnet,

I had not thought of going there but appears there could be an opportunity in a market for somebody.

Actually I was looking at casting some plackards and other small items. I am not actually doing anything in brass.

What do you want to cast? Foundry sand is not just foundry sand. Takes "Green Sand" for iron, different for nonferrous.

Try this web site: www.budgetcastingsupply.com
This is a oil and resin sand For all metals. You can use a 200 mesh sand mixed with water but the water content has to be just right. Too much water and it boils, too little and it falls apart. Good luck.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
