This is the only other view shown:
Comes from Cat parts Catalog for the HT4-101 to HT4-2800, 35C1-up
Form #30564.
Looks like the manufacturer of your unit would be Trackson.

The fenders would have to be cut out to mount the frame on a regular tractor as the HT4/955 used a different (shorter) fender that would not interfere.

The list of "fixes" you describe are pretty typical of a unit that has survived this long but you have the right stuff to work from.

I'm not a big fan of dry air filters for tractors that are seldom used. The "goo" used to aid filtration on paper elements is time dated and usually expires long before the filters need replacement. A well maintained oil bath unit works just fine......plus some of the dry type installations wind up being finger busters when you limit the clearance between lever handle and filter housing.

Does anyone have a Trackson manual library? So if it’s a Trackson it’s a model 1K94, correct?

I should be able to clean-up the torch cuts in the fenders to make them look better. Overall the ripper is a great accessory to have and I'm thinking a pretty rare attachment these days. (For that matter a 6U is much more rare than a 7U!)

Yep, 55 years is a long time for people to mess things up! All in all, finding a 6U (like Dad had) and being late production, in pretty good shape with usable accessories was a a lucky find! She just needs some love and elbow grease!

I agree about the paper filters, nothing wrong with oil bath, if properly maintained. Plus, oil bath is original to the tractor AND I could get away from the currently messed-up throttle linkage that was modified when the filter can was changed!

Be aware that Cat only guarantee their paper air filter elements for 12 mths from the date of manufacture. I owned a 930 Cat loader and I "dusted" the engine on it.
Investigation revealed that the fine black dust I was working in, had gone straight through both the outer and inner elements and into the engine, creating severe wear.
There were no holes of any kind in the elements, the dust had just gone straight through the paper. These were genuine Cat elements, but they had been previously cleaning by washing with cold water and detergent.

A trip to the local dealer, and presentation of the offending elements, expecting to get some kind of warranty, got me precisely nothing. The parts manager just flipped the filters, examined the manufacture date .. and upon finding that they were several years old .. just tossed them back to me, stating that he couldn't help me, as Cat only warranted filters (ANY filters) for 12 months .. :(

This made me very wary of using any filters that aren't 100% fresh .. and I often see people selling and buying NOS filters on eBay and at on-site auctions .. and I shake my head.
These filter buyers are saving $5, to put $15,000 or $50,000 engines at risk, by using filters that are past their use-by date.
Many big companies and Govt Depts discard new filters, that look perfectly O.K., purely for the simple reason that they are out of date. Buyer beware. The compound in the treated paper that effectively keeps the filtering to the micron limit, breaks down very rapidly.

Oil bath air filters might be ok for semi dusy environments, but when you operate an engine in an environment where there is so much dust you can't see 10' ahead you will start to think twice about that.

Most of the nut sweepers used in walnut and almond orchards come standard with triple air filteration from the factory this is because there is a 15,000 - 25,000 CFM blower that blows the nuts out of the midldes between the trees and into the rows and with it clouds of dust.

The first air filter is a donaldson Oil bath with a cyclone intake, followed by a danaldson dry unit, plumed right into the inlet of the OEM engines air filter. You would be amazed how much dust gets past the oil bath and into the first dry filter, especialy when you are working in a fine talcum powder type soil.

Usually at the end or sometimes twice a day all the filters are serviced and the oil is changed in the air filters you can pull out the #2 filter and just by the jarring of setting it down on a flat surface about a pound of dirt falls off of the filter.

Without proper servicing what can you expect from your air filter.

This is who services our filters www.sffilters.com/index.php , before that it was river city filter, both come by pick up the filters, clean them, and test them to check their life. We typicaly get 15,000 - 20,000 hrs out of the engine unless it has problems with coolant leaking through the liners then it is a little less.
