Garlic Mom discovered that I had found a new Ten undercarriage for her High Ten, so she decided to start on a project!

He ten runs like a top, but has had a hard life. It has a nice patina of rust and the sheet metal is well used. She doesn't plan to change that, but the rails and rollers are completely worn out and the track frames are splayed out because it has done so many hours pulling a cultivator attached to the trunnions on the frames.

The first order of business was jacking up the tractor, removing the track frame tin and breaking the tracks. As you can see, Mom is hands on, preferring to know what is being done to her equipment.

Here is the right side, ready to pull the track frame. The track frame bushings on this side are hardly worn at all. They must have been more careful about greasing these, or the left turn ag syndrome was kinder to them.

Here is the left side track fram bushing, showing the wear. It appears that these just run casting on casting with no bushing insert.

After disassembly of the pivot casting from the frame, and removal of the bearing caps, here is what the pivot frame and pivot looked like.

Her plan is to take the pivot and frame off and send them to a machine shop to be built up and turned to proper dimensions.

The sprockets show a fair amount of wear. We think these are unique to the high ten so we don't think any replacements are available. We debated about building them up with weld or leaving them as is. At this point we think we will leave them alone.

Aloha I am also woprking on a hi crop cat .a 22 in hawaii You think yours isrough one side of mine is rusted away!Your pictures are a real help as many af my parts are so rusty.I am looking for rear sprockets & rails.The sprockers are the same on hi 10 15 & 22 but still very hard to find i would settle for worn out & build them up.Keep the spinich handy Aloha Spike

Mom and Martin got the worn casting pulled off the dead axle and took the yoke and casting in to the machine shop to be built up and turned back down to the proper diameter.

The dead axle is pretty worn where the diagonal brace fits, too. We decided not to try to pull the dead axle to have it built up, so Martin measured it up so that the machine shop can make appropriate bushings to take the slack out in that area.

The small cap nut on the end of the dead axle preloads the sprocket bearings and also puts the right squeeze on the bellows seal. The stack of shims inside the cap adjuststs the preload on the bearings.

The bellows seal looks to be in good shape, except that a small piece of the inner cork adhered to the outer casting when we removed it. I can't find any part numbers on the seal and it looks in good shape. Would you try to reuse it or try to find a replacement. I got one that looked pretty similar for my D2 from Cat about five or six years ago. Maybe this part number is the same as a standard ten? It wasn't leaking at all before dissasembly, but the cork on both sides feels pretty stiff and old.

Another alternative would be to clean the old cork off and cement on new cork on both sides of the bellows.

New cork is availbe for the HC TEN. Check with Olson's gaskets.

I need to order a bunch of gaskets from Olson's for my DW10 pony rebuild, so maybe I can have them throw in the new cork for me, too.

We have a regular Ten parts manual, but nothing that covers the High Ten. Do you think this part is the same as the regular Ten? Do you happen to know the part number, or do you think Olson's can look it up if I just describe the part and give them the serial number?

If I do get new cork, do I just clean off the old from each side of the bellows, polish up the metal good and glue the new cork on?

I used thick rubber gasket material cut and glued it for my ten. Never leaks. Grease them before putting it back togeather. I think they will last longer. Pete, Olson's should be able to get you the correct cork just by telling them that you need the bellows cork for a HC TEN. That is a good questions about the crossover to the standard TEN. I know that the bellows are not interchangable, but maybe the cork is. Anyone else know? Yes you should be able to glue the new cork to the bellows plate once everything is all cleaned up. I use that green cement right from cat.

Thanks to both of you for the input.

I have to say that I have had good luck with Olson's. I emailed them a list of the gaskets that I needed for my DW10 pony. After a few days they sent me a confirmation that everything was available except one. They said they could get a pattern from Cat for that one if I needed it. They also thought to look at what I was probably doing and pointed out a seal that I had missed and would probably need.

Great service like this is getting harder and harder to find, these days.

I wouldn't be surprised if I told them bellows cork for High Ten as you described and they were able to get us just what we need.

Thanks for the reminder about greasing them when we put them together, catrjw. I would have probably not thought about that.
