RD7 - D7 serial # break Point??

Kind of “newbie” questions, so please bear with me.I bought a "new to me" crawler a few weeks ago, and am trying to nail down Exactly What model it is so I can get the proper manuals/parts lists for it.It is a 1937, serial # 9G2898WSP.Not completely sure if it is an RD7 or a D7 as it appears that the designation changed Somewhere during 1937??Other research has found that the operator’s instruction Book for an RD7 covers from tractor 9G1 to 9G2875.I believe that is where the change was made in the style of fuel injection pumps, and that mine would be 23 units After that, but haven’t found anything that Starts at #9G2876.The upper radiator tank has an old repair brazed onto the front of it so no lettering to be seen there. It is frozen down and snowed in, so won’t be coming home for a while, but I would like to get the proper paperwork for it beforehand.I believe the “SP” on the serial tag refers to factory installed “Special Parts”??Is there some way to get something like a Muscle car “Build Sheet” based on the serial # that would detail What special parts it came equipped with??Thanks

We have part books for both in the library, access to which is available to paid up members. A subscription is well worth it for access to the library alone…

If you can find casting number on top of the top radiator tank, that will tell if tank said RD7 or Caterpillar. A very early part book indicated that tank changed from RD7 to Caterpillar at 9G2777. With the caterpillar top tank, the radiator sides would have had initially a Brass plate RD7, later was replaced by a pressed steel plate with D7. I have never known when the steel tag was started.
The significance of the part book break at 9G2875 was the change from large flange injection pumps to the later forged body small pumps. Cat did not appear to pay much attention to when they changed from RD model designation to D. Later parts books make everything cloud, as they treated RDs as D.
SP could mean many things, different finals, transmissions, pony motor two speed transmission, and many other thing. Cat was the only one that would have know what it met, and that info is LONG gone.     Pictures are my 9G2614W.

Brian: I know I am being a bit inquisitive, just curious as to how many tractors you own? You can share if you like, if not, I understand! Thank you, JM.

Replied by cr on topic RD7 - D7 serial # break Point??
That’s a Be-Ge hydraulic system, made In Gilroy CA, fairly common for many colors of AG crawlers of that era lasting until the late 70’s.

My 9G7101 has D7 on the seat & D7 on the rad top tank. The top tank looks nearly like there was a R before the D but maybe they took the R out of the mould or something?
