I believe a few members have commented that a modified 15/16" wrench may be needed to remove bolts on the steering clutch assembly before complete removal from a D6 8U or 9U. The machine is an hour away and I'd like to be prepared with the proper tools before I get there. I've got the tank off and should be able to get them removed on my next time out. I believe some may have bent a wrench to get into the tight space or ground the box end at an angle to have more room to access. If any one has pictures of the modified wrench or additional comments. Mac has not had those wrenches for years since Irwin bought them.
You can use 2 combination wrenches buy putting the box end on the bolt and putting the box end of the other one on open end and effectively doubling the length of the wrench.
The outside bolts on the drum are accessed thu a hole in front of the sprocket with a socket.
Don't forget a bottle jack.

I have always used Bluox's method of double wrenching. With nothing more than Craftsman wrenches generally. Never broke any double wrenching them ( mine are getting near 50 years old, so maybe better than a 20 year old one). Several 12 inch extensions in 3/4 drive are a help in getting the outside bolts working through the sprocket. I have made do with 1/2 drive extensions but a lot of spring action from them with the length to get in there to get them started. I only have 2, 12 inch 3/4 drive extensions, but may add another short one or 2. Your track shoe width will make a difference on how much you need. A 2x4 block to hold the extension up on the outside end is a big help too.

Might also add I used a highlift jack under a grouser in the back to move the tractor to the next bolts.

Thanks for all the comments. I got started yesterday, I got a few bolts loosened after cleaning the old black slime diesel off the components. I hope to have them out by the end of the week.
