Hello,
New to the site! We just purchased a D4 7U Dozer The machine serial # is 7U1229 and the Motor tag is 6U 6846 is that normal or has the engine been changed? it has a pony motor. What Cat engine size would the 6U 6846 be?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi, bess53.
Your engine has been switched at some point, not uncommon as the 6U and 7U series both had the same engines. Your engine is out of a later machine than yours but the same basic engine.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Hi, bess53.
I am not sure but I think it would be a D315 engine at about 48 horsepower. Others here could tell you for sure.

the difference between a 6u and a 7u is track width the 7 u is a wide track machine. apart from differences in the track drive and the track itself they are the same.

the engine in your came off the line 600 machines after ours.

The difference is the gauge not the track width. On my D6 4R and 5R both have the same width tracks but are different gauges. Differences between the two are the track frames, final drive housing and hub, dead axles, spring mounts and fenders.
