It would be a good temporary workaround TOP. For the seal, a couple of options - there's a limited range of crank housings that it could be. If you can find a casting number on the pony, someone may be able to cross-reference that to a model, and from there to options on the crank housing, and then from there to the potential seals. Another way would be to disassemble it and measure the seal and buy a generic one to fit.
 

There is a photo of the casting number AFAIK. Never crossed a casting number before, but I've heard of it.
