Does anyone know how to check and where to check the hydraulic oil for the blade on a 7U D4? The resivoir is in front of the radiator and I took the cap off that thinking there may be a dip stick on the cap but there wasn't one. Not sure where to go from there.

The oil should be visible in the filler neck of your NO.44 hydraulic control on your D4 7U. If you are a "paying" member and can access the ACMOC library please read the Operation and Maintenance Instructions(OMI) for the NO. 44 hydraulic control.

oil should be just visible at the bottom of the filler neck. any more and it will overflow as the oil expands with heat.

I have my own question about correct oil level/amounts for a #44 unit with the surge tank. What is the proper amount? Someone said only 1/4 full, here I run them about 1/2 full. I have seen some folks get a bath from too much. Also, is the system supposed to be able to breathe? Factory cap has no obvious means of ventilation. Thoughts? TIA JM

My understanding is that the surge tank is maintained around 50%, and the system is pressurized so the cap needs to be on tight after priming. Had to go through the process of priming my buddy's HT4 which has the surge tank arrangement. This was all from the service reference or operator's manual - can't remember which
