Adjusting the governor linkage on a D7 pony engine

I bought an NOS carb for my 17A pony engine. The existing governor linkage looks pretty beat up. I couldn't find anything in the service manual I have on adjusting this bit. They only talk about adjusting the high idle spring. Picture below to show what I am talking about. Any thoughts on how to adjust this bit?

This rod should work with a different carburator or different governor

It is adjustable in length but the book didn't seem to mention how to adjust it. The guy that sold the carb had a governor arm on it that clamped to the shaft. So it might not be exactly where the ole arm was located.

Thanks. That's the same picture as in my book. But my pony engine is laid out different. The governor arm on the carb is 180 degrees different so the governor rod is attached below the butterfly shaft because the governor arm connection is below the governor arm shaft. See picture. I have a different thread trying to ID the pony engine. It isn't a 17A pony engine AFAIK.

Adjusting the spring for high idle I get, But adjusting the governor rod for low idle has me baffled.

I can't give you advice as to what the adjustment of the governer rod length should be at the moment, but I will say that what you have there does appear to be the same as what is on my 17A, with the governer rod attached below the throttle butterfly pivot shaft.

And I would assume it is also attached below the pivot on the governor arm. the spring would be above the governor arm pivot.

That's right, the end of the linkage with the swivel ball coupling is attached to the lower end of the governer pivot arm, below the pivot point.

I can't find anything in any of the manuals that I have that makes reference to the setting of that linkage. If it's any help to you my linkage measures pretty close to 5½", or 140mm, pin centre to pin centre. My other observation is that with governer arm in the high idle position, the linkage in question is pretty well in a relaxed position, with very minor movement still to the maximum throttle position on the carb, not exerting governer spring pressure on the maximum throttle stop on the carb.
The low idle speed is set by a stop screw on the carb.
I hope this makes sense and is of some help.
