I am pretty sure the pony engine on my 17A is not original as the starting crank is located on the side down low next to the track and the bracket for the vertical starting crank was torched off. For the purpose of repairing it and getting parts it would be nice to know what it was from. Any help would be appreciated.

The 17a low serie had the hand crank mechanic horisontal with the magneto vertical

Still the bracket for the vertical crank was torched off.

Here are some pictures. Pardon the hoses. I am removing a homebuilt auxilliary hydraulic system that I think was meant to run a tilt cylinder on the dozer.

That does not look like a starting engine from an earlier tractor like a 7M. Probably a later model.

One difference from what the parts/service book says is the way the governor linkage is set up. This one has a rod that snaps onto a ball on a short arm below the pivot while the idle spring is on a long arm above the pivot. The arrangement I expected was that the governor linkage and the idle spring would both be on the same side (above) the pivot.
I wonder which D6, D7 and D8 pony motors will swap with this machine?

The d8 14a use the same model and the rod picture from yesterday is connect to the carburator lever and the other end is connect to the top governor lever
