Runs great. Starts right up. Grinded something fierce when trying to put it in gear but found out after removing the floor panels that the belly pan is full of dirt and was not allowing the clutch brake to contact the output shaft drum. Cleaned the dirt from under the brake linkage and it works like a charm. Left steering pedal won't return. Spring is on but there seems to be some binding in the linkage under the battery box. We will check that this weekend as well as seeing how to remove the belly pan(s). We also have a left steering problem that we have to investigate. It may have something to do with that left brake issue. Other than that we are very pleased with our purchase. I think that it is a good father/son project. Get ready for some questions you experts! Tried to lookup parts on parts.cat.com and the said serial number was invalid. Can someone test out serial number 82J2997? Sorry about the paint but tha's how we bought it. i'll see if I can clean up the plate a bit.

Thanks for the reply Old Magnet. Glad to know that I have a valid number. CAT.com took a few hours to say it was valid but the parts site still says invalid.
Oh well, I guess after market parts for me now.
I'll get back on chat and find out why my SN says invalid. I need a hydraulic tank strainer (under the filler cap) now though and I have got a parts manual yet.

We began the cleaning of the belly pan today. Broke the only rear bolt and tried to drop it without a floor jack. That was a mistake! Dark caught us so we will regroup In a couple of days.

UPDATE
First problem solved! D4D 82J would not go into gear without the gears grinding. The problem was dirt and debris in the belly pan was so deep that the clutch brake linkage could not go down enough to apply the break to the output shaft.
We have 3 more problems to solve.
1. The left brake goes all the way to the firewall and does not return. the big pin that the brake shoe linkage connects to under the seat is stiff and hard to turn.
2. The right steering clutch seems to be slipping a little.
3. The hydraulics are noisy.
We will keep y'all informed along th way. Any tips will certainly be appreciated!

UPDATE:
We got the brake lining kit from General Gear and got the left brake freed up and relined. Working in the Alabama August heat is awful.
We are gonna adjust the right steering clutch, check and add hydraulic fluid and run her for a bit. We got our service and parts manuals in
but have yet to find an Operation and Maintenance Manual. Will keep y'all posted.
