Just recently joined the Association. Last year, I purchased a well-worn Model 10, and have been slowly cosmetically restoring the Cat. This will hopefully preserve it for future restoration work. My question is about the serial number; where is it? I have checked the usual places. The original plate is missing from the back of the seat. On the transmission housing, just below the shift controls, there is no number. On the right side of the radiator, above the TEN, is stamped H B. In the right side of the engine block are K-28, CWC, T-33. I assume the last is a part number. Could this be a prototype tractor? Thank you for your help.

Check on the machined boss on the side of the radiator where the lights would mount. Some are stamped there.

Thank you for the information. I will double check that area. The only thing I found were the letters HB. I will have to try and upload several pictures.

Check the left side of the engine block flat area where generator would mount. Approximately 2” x 3”
Flat with three holes threaded in it clean the paint off good I have found the number here before Skinner

Good advice. I will carefully clean off these areas. Ninety years of paint and grime will cover just about anything. Thanks again.

FYI- the HB you are seeing is not "HB" but is a slightly stylized/ overlapped "HS" which was the logo for Harrison Steel. They were the foundry for Caterpillar.

I finished cleaning the generator, and the two headlight mount areas. no indication of a serial number. The H is about one inch over the stylized 8 stamp. Assuming the H is for Holt. Clear coated those areas, so they can be double checked later. Next will again clean and check the inspection plate area next to the shift levers. I wonder if there are other Model 10 crawlers without a serial number? Thanks to everyone for their advice.

Yes, there was quite a few without serial numbers it’s like they just forgot to stamp them before they went out the end of the factory.

I have seen a lot of old Fordson tractors without any serial numbers stamped in them. I guess it is a minor thing to do when you’re trying to move large quantities out the door in a short time to make the most of high demand.
