This just in from Jenny:

Hi all,

The login on the upper right corner of the home page is linked to the Members Only section and not the bulletin board. This has brought some confusion that we are working to rectify. To request a password for the Members Only section, go to www.acmoc.org and then select the "Members" tab. This will bring you to a form that you can submit to get access to this section of the website. To ensure that only active members can view this part of the site, we have the passwords directly linked to member number from our internal database. That way, we can control who can view that part.

In regards to the chapter emails, the emails listed there are set to forward to the email addresses that you provided for the magazine. For security reasons, we didn't want to list everyones personal emails on the website. Therefore we put redirect in place. I'll send you a sample email and you can reply if you get it.

I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me with any other questions.

Thanks,
Jenny Penrod

great looking home page but!
does it require a separate password than the forum? I tried signing in there and it said mt user name and password didn't match.

I like the new home page also but have the same problem and I tried it 3 different times with the same result. I had to come back to the link that we are using for this page. Maybe it was due to being logged in on the alternate. I will log out here and retry.

tom, why should you need a "new" computer to see the new homepage? If you are having trouble with it, I'll ask Joe Black to help you with it. GWH

The new website requires a flash player that my current browser wont handle, also the window won't fit on my computer. I can't upgrade my browser unless I get a new computer. I will just have to miss out on it.

There are many people around the world who do not have access to the latest computer bells and whistles, there are ways to make a website compatable with all systems.

Tom, I will pass your message right away to our computer group here. I am not really a computer person, but your explanation makes sense. Since you are able to post on the bulletin board, I assume the problem is only with the home page. GWH

8C 361 - Unfortunately, sticking with old computers is a fatal mistake, and one that does go against the grain, of what we antique aficionados usually enjoy most - trying to keep antique items in operation.

Computers have never been so cheap to purchase or upgrade, and even tiny hand-held jobs, now boast features, for a couple of hundred dollars, that $2000 computers couldn't provide, even 7-8 years ago.

Despite being on a fixed income, I regularly update my computers about every 3 years, and take advantage of the new technology on offer.
Fast speeds, bigger screens, and more features are available for a few hundred dollars, and they make life easy .. and you don't get frustrated, waiting for downloads, or trying to see items that everyone can see quickly and easily.
The Adobe Flash programs are in widespread use, along with many other useful little programs - but they all require updated equipment and browsers to get the benefit of them.

There is just no benefit in sticking with old computers, except if you want to become very angry and frustrated. This advice is coming from a person who, 10 years ago, had no interest in computers or computing, and who thought it was just a fad that would never take off.
I have been proven very wrong, and had to pick up speed rapidly on computer knowledge - to the extent I now buy the components and build my own computers. It's not hard to do, and you gain a great deal of benefits.
Improved mental exercise stops you from becoming an old fogey, and the Internet has provided me with a greatly increased exchange of knowledge, great deals, and a host of new friends and associates. Upgrade your computer, it's well worth it.

If the Internet was geared down to accomodate every ancient computer, it would be the equivalent of driving down your best Interstate in the latest Cadillac, but with you and every other road user being restricted by the guy up ahead in the smoking old Model T Ford, sitting on 25mph, and occupying every lane .. :D

It's far better to continue to upgrade Internet features and speeds - and then have the users upgrade their equipment to take advantage of it - rather than wait for everyones ancient computer to finally die, before Internet and websites are upgraded .. :D

Tom, you could help the bulletin board committee by providing pertinant information about the computer you are currently using. Such as operating system, system ram, processor type and speed, video, etc.. Your problems can't be diagnosed just on the info that you have an ancient computer.

New Message From Jenny:

Can you ask the person with the issues viewing the site, or anyone else with problems, to email me at <a href="This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it." target="_blank">This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ? I need to know their operating system and what browser version they are using in order to target any problems.

Also, if Flash Player is the only problem, it just means he won't be able to see the videos, but should be able to see everything else.

Thanks,

Jenny
