Also....
There is one very important thing that I don't think is getting heard:
When we had staff we were operating a a loss every year. Had we continued on that path, the Club would have been out of funds by July of 2024.
When faced with having no Club at all or modernizing and creating some discomfort for a small subset of members, the choice was easy.

I might have another option that I have not seen talked about. Everyone is on auto-renewal. An email is sent through the computer system that gives the member an opt-out option if they want. If the member does not opt out within so many days the renewal goes through with no recourse for a refund.

@naylorbros - I'll take a look at that. We can send an email for sure, I'll have to look at the opt-out options. Thank you for the constructive idea.

Kurt,
Your point is getting heard. There is no doubt that the only way forward is through automated renewal in some shape or form. Staff or volunteer input for renewals isn't a sustainable use of limited resources. Again, I have no objection with the status quo, my only thoughts are that if some action on the members part is required for renewal, it will leave members perhaps more in control of their expenditure, which I think is one of the gripes I've read regarding auto renewal. Essentially it would still be an automated system.

Maybe several E-mail notices that if you do nothing it will auto renew. So you need to take action to get out. As long as it is not a long winded process dealing with a person from the Asia continent with very limited English speaking ability working in a phone center.
😉 My wife has spent hours on hold with ATT over charges she felt were in err. Every month, for 6 months or more until she won.

Kurt,
I would also like to add that I make no criticism of the BoD or their running of the club or their handling club finances. I just choose to get involved in discussion rather than heckling from the sidelines.

yes in australia the reserve bank and dept of treasury has told all the banks to phase out cheques in the next yr or so. the big 4 banks are already doing this. you will still be able to go into a branch and get a bank cheque(for a fee of course and if you can find a branch) but they are no longer issuing private cheque books anymore.
the electronic transfer systems have made them obsolete. using my BSB and account number i can send money anywhere in the world i just need the bsb and account number for the recieving account
in can send and recieve money using just my email adress or mobile phone number via the PayId system from anyone in australia to any australian bank account its done by a company that is jointly owned by the 4 big banks. what do you expect from the country that invented EFTPOS and the ATM. in the next few years we wont have 5 or ten cent pieces. we might not even have actual cash. the big 4 banks have asked the competition commision if they can charge a cash handling fee every time you deposit or withdraw cash. the treasury reckon if they got rid of cash they could give every australian at least 10 bucks extra a week. just from not having to maintain the currency.
now to get back on topic.
it would be nice to have the option to opt out of auto renew. and have a automatic email reminder instead. one way to do this is set up a common due date for everyone. say that is june 30 each year for australia its the end of our financial year so its easy to remember.
auto renew has advantages though its harder for people to forget to renew as that has been a issue in the past people join thier local chapter yet dont pay a membership to acmoc. so it meant the club wasnt getting all the funds it could have.
