My bright idea of grabbing a governor off of a parts tractor didnt work out too well. 5J governors are just enough different from 5U, that it would not fit. J model D2s have a bump in the firewall to fit the front of the governor. U model governors are a little shorter , so the D2 U model tractor doesnt have that bump. I ended up taking the end with the shaft and lever from the J model and put it on the U model governor , so I have a Frankin-governor, but it works. It is not perfect and I will look for parts from a U model but it has me going for now. Just another learning experience in old iron. Grant.

I learned something today Grant - I didn't know they were different lengths. Presumably a J-series governor is usable on a U-series engine?

Cheers,

The other way around. The U series would work on a "J" because it is shorter . The only reason that a J series gov. would not work on a U series tractor is the lack of the bump on the firewall. I think that functionally they will both work the same.
