D2 Shifter boot was created by Packrat
Good morning,
I've got a brand new shifter boot for my D2 5U4467 and I can't figure out how to get the cast iron cover with the shift gates off to replace the boot. I've got all 4 nuts off, soaked it in Kroil, and even tried some heat! I've studied the book and don't know what else to do. I hate being defeated by these simple jobs.

You're on the right track so far. Probably what's holding the plate down is rust. That stuff will "glue" a lot of these old parts together. You might try prying from the side gently while tapping with a small hammer. Remember, that's cast iron and it's brittle. Once you get any movement at all, then it's just a matter of working the plate up.
