Hi,

I bought a dozer its a d4d, serial number is 78A1594, it says Group Number: 4K6037, I would like to know if I can download an operators manual from somewhere, i tried starting the dozer today it was a big failure, i had no idea which lever was the throttle, i used 2 12 volt truck batteries in series, after pulling what i believe was the throttle lever one of the batteries terminal melted because the lead wasnt tight enough i think, I stopped tinkering with the machine until I find an operators manual. Any info would be appreciated.

Jose - If you pay for membership here, there are some manuals available in the library. Not sure if it would have the ones you need, however.

I recently found all the manuals I need for an old D7 on eBay. I would start off with the OMI.

That's odd that you melted a terminal, but I haven't seen that happen from something being too loose. Anyway, as you may know, you can hook two 12V batteries up as 12V or 24V; perhaps you had one of the cables on the wrong terminal?

Where are you located? Might have a member nearby who would be willing to help. Any pictures of the D4?

Yeah so I wanted to know if the manuals here in the library section would include the model i got or not because its not really vintage i think its from 1975, but i am not certain, i am finding out that its a 78a1 so it was made in the USA ill keep looking and also on ebay  like you mention thanks!

I'm in San Antonio; always up for an adventure, but that's about a 5 hour drive each way. A bit too far.

ok! i will think about getting a membership the thing is my priority is running the engine i bought it from a mechanic with a big workshop he claimed and showed to me that everything was in good condition but when i got the dozer delivered it had no battery and no operators manual of course bc its a 1976 machine. The lever on the right side of the dash is the throttle control. 
Two batteries in series is correct. If the wiring is correct, turn and hold the starter switch to the left for about a minute, then to the right to crank the engine with the throttle lever wide open.
Interesting that you have a toolbar blade on a D4d series. Wish I had your disc.
Ebay seems to be the place for manuals.

I see you have a rome disc in the background . would be interested in the serial number i had 13 at one time not many of those tbh 16s around . They are the only disc that would stand. up to our work cutting fire breaks .

You posted several photo's, so are we to assume it ran and was unloaded on it's own power?
What changed that you can not start it?

Did the seller demonstrate the workings and offer to give you any instruction?

I hesitate to think of starting at full throttle, I never liked going from no oil pressure to full throttle.
There should be a detent on throttle that you have to pull it open to deliver fuel, Shut down is to idle then past the detent. You should be able to feel that when you move the throttle.

The disc harrow is a 5 and 5 disk front and back the diameter of each disk blade is 26 inches, the brand is "durable" made in mexico i think it could be a rome plow clone, the brand durable has good reputation here in mexico not sure in the rest of the world, its got a serial number and a model ill take photos tomorrow!
