Questions about shipping to England

Andrew, assuming you were paid in full before the engine shipped, I would suspect he got it, or otherwise you would have heard from him. Did you send him a private message on the bb? I am not familiar with the name. GWH

I just dropped off a tractor to Gabe's facility yesterday that is heading to the UK. Was pleasant, accomodating, described some of the various tractors he has shipped prior and how he has prepared them for transport to Europe, Austrailia, and NZ. Seemed knowledgable and he was very familiar with one of the individuals noted on this post as he does much of his freighting for product departing from the west coast to the UK. Should I sell anything more to overseas buyers I am going to recommend they inquire with him to arrange and coordinate the transport.

Andrew - Your shipping agent, Gabe, may be waiting upon a container that is going to Melbourne, that has some spare room in it. These "less-than-container-load" items, such as your engine, are a PIA to shippers, and often, they just don't want to know about them.
They usually prefer to deal just with 20' or 40' full containers, and nothing else.

You may be able to swing a deal if you contact American car importers in Melbourne, and see if they have containers coming, with cars in them, that have room for an engine as well.

I often see classified ads in the local Sunday paper, with importers stating they have room in containers coming from CA, and they are looking for additional freight.

Check out the local hot-rod clubs and hot-rod parts suppliers, they are the blokes who deal with this kind of thing all the time.
Freight forwarders are a PIA, they never attend to details .. and it's worse, when you don't have someone on the far end, doing the checking and double checking for you.

Another word of advice - make sure that engine is perfectly clean, or Australian Quarantine will fall on you like a ton of bricks, with additional cleaning charges, and double inspection charges .. and they don't work cheap .. :(
