Questions about shipping to England

More

Have been asked to make this post and see if we can get some answers. Jim Z will be shipping some equipment to England. So how does one do it? Is there a company that is cheapest? To what port? Perhaps some replies will generate more pointed questions. Any help will be appreciated. GWH

The smaller stuff I have been shipping to Australia goes USPS in one of those set price for all you can stuff in it boxes. Runs about $50 as compared to $210 UPS.

Matt, apparently I was much, much too vague. It is a tractor. It will have to go in a container, I suppose. GWH

George youll need to contact a logestics co. to pick up container at the port and delv. to him then stuff it in along with anything else you can find to fill the box to help offset the shipping price and secure it with dunnage so it dosnt move around inside.Anything up to a 60 will go in but 60 needs the ends of the dead axles on each side sawed off and outside idler springs removed, it is important to remove the exaust stack in ruff seas the tractor will move up and down on its springs and if stack hits container top it will break the exaust manifold. Then the logestics co will pick it up and delv. to the dock with all the proper paper work. We use a guy name Gabe from Global Logestics in Oakland CA. We just drop the things off at his wharehouse in downtown San Leandro he does the rest, he may stuff and old car or somthing in same container. Great guy and takes care of all the papaer work. Jim will have to contact somebody East,West or South and set it up or ship it out here and Ill fix him up with Gabe to handle it.
The key is that it must be very clean all cover areas need tin removed and cleaned no dirt or buggs or it will be quarintined over there. If you need any info call me Ill help you out.

George, We sold some tractors to a fellow in England a few years back. He did all of the arrangements but if I remember correctly they were shipped out of Duluth, Minnesota. You might check that area for a logistics company it might save some miles.

Thanks all for your help. Note that when the bb was migrated to the new site, we lost Omnitrak's response. GWH

George,

I would recommend that Jim should contact Robert Wilson for his advice. Robert has considerable experience on shipping equipment to the UK from the US.

David, I will pass along all these very good suggestions. Today is the Sabbath in Iowa (as elsewhere) that Jim and his family observe. I will telephone Jim tomorrow (Monday) morning with these suggestions. Thank you all very much. GWH
