yep that will do it every time.
ive seen chains break too. but if you select the right chain for the task and importantly use it properly you have no problems

grant, you would have a eye spliced into one end instead of the crimp lug on both ends. and the cable long enough for your needs.
you dont want it too short or too long. too short you can manuver too long it gets hung up and you cant see it easily to manuver and avoid the hang ups.

Hi, Folks.
The BIGGGG plus of a wire rope sling or choker over a chain is that it much lighter to drag around. Select the right rope diameter and length for your needs and then go up maybe one size from the safe working load recommendation and you will usually be pretty safe. In this case, I think I would be using the higher drawbar pull figure to get the safe working load cable size.
Unless you are going to be pulling 7 foot diameter Karri or Redwood logs, I think 16 to 18 feet would be a reasonable length.
Just my 0.02.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

I will be having an 18 foot, 5/8 choker made up later today. It should be fine for the D2 and OK for the D4 when (if) I get it running. I let you all know the price later. Grant.

Bought a 5/8 inch by 16 foot choker today. They said that was their most common size. A few cents less than $100. Acme Rigging is a fascinating place. There is so much really big hardware that it is great to look around. Grant.
