Going to add a couple gas cats to the collection. Both will need a lot of work and some parts but should be fun to work on. Both are 1928 models if I read serial number charts correctly. Thirty is the most complete, Sixty missing the intake manifold, air cleaner and vacuum tank. Both are currently stuck. But the good news is I finally have a Sixty. The Allis M needed a new home also.

Hi, Mschwartz.
Nice catches and congratulations. How-wevver, if the Best radiator on that Sixty is original, I doubt itza a 1928 model. At latest, it would be about a mid-1925, pre-merger in April of 1925.
Nice looking 'Jesus boots' on the M.
Thanks for sharing.

Congrats: Those tractors should keep you occupied for part of the winter. Looks like (not being nit picky) the tracks are not proper/same direction on the Sixty. Nothing you can't deal with I'm sure. Thank you for sharing your catches and have lots of fun! JM

Hi, juiceman.
WHICH is the right way?????? They look like two different styles of plate, at least to my 'pore, ole, cataracty' eyes. The left side looks to be the newer style plate while the right side looks to be the older pressed style with the grousers built up.
But I do stand 2 b corrected, to quote Swishy.

Deas: I can't tell from here if they are both cast grousers. Maybe we should ask the guys that own motor graders which is the "right" direction.
On the old cast ones I have seen in the past; things as bass ackwards of a newer machine. The grouser would hit the dirt after the sandtraps, not before. What do I know? I don't own any running gas machines to be savvy enough to know. Whatever makes Mr. Schwartz happy works for me! JM

Hi, juiceman.
As I understand it, the early ones all had the grouser at the rear. I don't know if this changed before, during or after they went to cast grousers.
A left click will bring up a smaller version of any of these photos and a second left click will enlarge that photo. The right track has pressed plates while the left one has cast plates. Does that make it a 'changeover' machine from April, 1925? LOL.
And I agree, so long as Mschwartz is happy, what else matters?
Hope you're working hard to make up for what I am no longer doing to support your wonderful country.

I don't think that there is a "right" or "wrong" on the Sixty/ Thirty tracks - just different years.
Attached below are 2 pages from Issue 19, April 1996 of the ACMOC bulletin by Dave Smith. The diagrams are reprinted from SL 456, page 44.
I don't know what "the guys that own motograders" has to do with this thread.

Hi, Willwingo.
I have been aware for a long time of the differences in the appearances of the early and later styles of track plates. I just was not aware of a changeover date.
The reference to "the guys that own motograders" has to do with the ongoing arguments about rotational direction for driving and rolling tires on graders and I think juiceman brought it up because of this discussion about 'right' and 'wrong' here to add some levity to the situation.

Flywheel, seat box and recoil springs makes it a Cat 60, my guess is the header tank or the whole radiator have been replaced.

Serial number is 4405A, radiator tank or maybe whole radiator looks to be older to me. Mix match of track pads on the tractor but the rails look good. Found stamped dates for ‘27 or’28 on rear of engine block.
