Back in the game! Hi All, how has everybody been? Its been awhile since I have posted. I have been off building hotrods. I bought this off of a co-worker, about 25 miles from the house. I only got half of it today 😄 the rest of it was in the guys shop behind a combine that wouldn't start. He just replaced the steering clutches, he never got it back together. Both engines are free. The under carriage looks really good. I bought it to use the under carriage under an old trackstavater that I could buy for scrap price, can't remember the serial number of the trackstavater. I think OM said it was a 1952 when I asked bofore. But this Cat is 5T. The serial number is 5T6303. About what year would that be? Would the rails be long enough to fit the trackstavator? It seems that I read one time that the trackstavators have longer tracks. Any help on that would be appreciated. I picked this Cat up for a $100.

Thanks In Advance,
Ken

They came out in 1943 according to the Cat SNID book and the 6U & 7U D4s came out in 1947 so likely it,s in the 46 year guessing or in between that time as my Cat SNID book only shows starting production. If the traxcavator is a 1952 then it would be a 7U serial number. I would think the traxcavator tracks would be longer.

The HT4 Traxcavator uses a 5 roller track frame so you would need a few more links. I have seen Traxcavators with grouser pads on them. I believe the rollers are a different style but I am guessing that they could be fitted.

I show 5T6303 as early 1947.
Along with the 5-roller frame they also used the large diameter front idler.
37 link chain is used (31 for standard tractor)
Grouser shoes can be used but they are pretty aggressive with all the maneuvering you normally do with a loader......but almost a requirement if pushing on slippery ground.
Except for the standard flat shoes everything else is standard tractor undercarriage.

Glad to see your back to the "yellow iron"😊 😊

Hello,
I just changed my d-4 7u from a 5 roller to an older ,but better 4 roller bottom. Had to change frames and all but it all fits. With a loader you would be better off the 5 roller carriage. My book shows 1 extra double flange roller to make it five. All other parts interchanged for me.

Hey Ken-
A 5T with new steer clutches, free engines and a good u/c is NOT a parts tractor, no matter how many pieces it's in... 😊

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
