I have a D4 30A, Number 30A168, in Queensland Australia. I am trying to locate a parts book for the engine, but I am not real sure on the engine serial number? I've worked out it is most likely a D315, but not sure on the model number. Would anyone have any idea on what model engine these were? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
John.

Thats the model number of the engine, D315, same as a 6 or 7U series D4.

Ok, thanks. I mucked up my question a bit.
I can't seem to find the serial number on the engine.

nice rig
Two locations on the rear of tractor š and another one on the engine behind the governor. If tag is missing look closely, sometimes the S/N is stamped into the block under the tag. Both engine and chassis S/N's should be the same

John, If the engine is original, the tractor serial number and the engine number will be the same . There was about 350 30As built . They are Aussie built .Sort of .Thetrackframes , and other parts made here in oz to give the Australian content .I have a 29A .

Thank for the info. That is very useful. I have to rebuild the engine. It has failed 1 and 2 big end bearings and I am trying to find a parts book for the engine.

Hey John - I have a 29A D4 (only since recently). I'm using parts and service manuals for the 6U/7U tractors. I don't know if 29A/30A manuals exist.
I've been working on the assumption that the 29As and 30As correspond to 6U/7U serial numbers for the same years (like if the skid units sent to Aus were made with the same parts as an equivalent current 7U). If my thinking is sound, you could use a 7U parts manual as if your tractor is between serial 7U42000 and 7U44307. Seems 30As were built in 1958 and 1959.
The engine and transmission parts I find on mine seem to correspond to the later revisions in the parts manual (changeovers that happened around ~40000 in 7U).
Paul.

Thank you for the reply. That all makes sense. I am about to tackle an engine overhaul, so I guess I'll be a lot wise when / if I finish it.
