Thank guys for the info on pony operation.
New question ,I rebuilt the water pump this summer (as with everything else)
I made a new shaft and I am not sure how tight do I tighten the packing?
Is there a run in time frame?
I dont want to ruin the new packing or rut the shaft

general rule on packing is tighten it just enough so that it LEAKS at a rate you can stand. HA! HA!
The leakage keeps the packing lubricated and cooled. Some of the packing materials have enough lubricating ability to stay cool when not leaking, but I would make sure to adjust slowly and just enough to stop the drip. You may want to keep the wrench on the tractor and adjust when you stop the tractor after a run if you notice a drip after you shut it down while the engine is hot and radiator has a little pressure

Greyhead,
Where is the correct way to tighten up the water pump packing nut on your tractor.
Be sure you do it why the engine is running as stated.
