Old Magnet--- hope im not bothering you -I trust your advice--
my right front idler needs adjustment( im not tracking straight)- Im getting excesive wear on my first roller and on the idler. I called the local Cat Dealer today for wear pads and Shims. When they asked Serial# they said no such Tractor existed! He was a young kid so i just left it alone-- ? is where can i get these or do I need to make them and if so what do I make them out of and what Dimension-- and again Thanks Jim

Well there are a couple of issues here......getting some young "buckaroo" in the parts department is almost always a bad sign.....see if you can find a "gray hair" that knows the old stuff.
Better yet is to do your own part number search and go shopping with the numbers. If you need a parts diagram for the idler I can post. Many of the idler parts were used for later models and are still available but there may be some that aren't.
You may also have worn internal bushings along with the external visible stuff.
Nothing that can't be fixed with some new, fabricated or good used parts.
Maybe someone local to you can put you in contact with a veteran parts man, they are worth their weight in gold and I consider myself lucky to have two such sources near me.

Yes Please post a copy- My Cat Dealer is Holt and they cover San Antiono to Dallas -big area- and its all comp answered - I hate it once you get someone they are so dumb and you ask for shop foreman or mangner they dont know what to do. would You post Your Cat dealer so I could call them and I will pay the frieght. I agree these wear pads & shims had to be used on newer tractors ---just need to be crossed ref.. and I saw your Drawing on the top cover cut For a D42t trans cover for Bernie Didnt know You had one
Did not want to bother you again --- BUT from now on I will ask-- Talk about old Grey Hairs -- Ive been retired for a year and a half ( after 40 years) and I got a call from James Corp to day asking if I would run a Blade for them . When I quit year and half ago they said they had plenty of young up and cominng Blade men to take my spot I said GREAT-- Just like them parts -- NO such Tractor- Thanks -- OLD MAGENT
