Hello! First time posting, and a new owner as of this morning. Picked up a 1937 Cat D4 (4G8365) for $1k. Ran great when parked 3-4 years ago, then when owners went to start it, I am assuming the starter clutch/pinion assembly got stuck and it jammed up and stalled out the pony motor. Exhaust pipe came off at some point, so water has likely found its way in. Luckily I live in a dry climate, so hopefully damage is minimal. Owners had poured a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil down the exhaust a while back, fingers crossed it helped prevent some damage . Have lots to learn, and look forward to the knowledge you all have! Welcome to the forum. Looks like a lot of fun for only $1000.00 (which doesn't buy much anymore). What are your plans? Get it running and play with it, or make it earn its keep?
Keep us posted please. JM

Planning on getting it running and get some use out of it! Once I get it running strong again I'll start figuring out how to make 'er pretty again! Have some stumps and dirt to move on my property, and I knew I wouldn't get a tractor up for the tasks at hand for that price and some time/effort to get it going. Antique tractors are a bit of a family thing for me as well, my step-dad's side has a MASSIVE collection of crawlers and steam tractors here.

Nice find at a good price. Hopefully it won’t take much to get up and running. Noticed the Kubota sticker on the ute. I work at a Kubota dealership as well and enjoy the yellow iron. I have a D4 6U. Looking forward to seeing updates on your progress to get it going. Good luck.

Nice find. And it looks very clean. Back here these are usually rusted quite bad if they have sat outside. There was one I looked at years ago that went thru a fire. It still sat in the same spot where the building burned around it. It was not worth saving in my opinion. The fire was so hot the aluminum parts were melted. When I saw it there was a large tree growing through the rear sprocket area as the fire was many years before.

WDLittell, you wrote the magic words, that your step-dad's family has a massive collection. We're going to need photographic evidence before you get the secret password to the treehouse ; )
