Something doesn't look right about the position of those oil funnels....should be leaning in, not out.......maybe it's me;) it's early and I haven't had my coffee transfusion yet:)

Hi Old Magnet-
You are correct. I do not have them cottered in yet. I still need to clean up the transmission compartment and the bevel gear box so I left them loose for now until I am ready to put on the bevel gear guard.
I hope to be able to look at the cut layout for my transmission cover today. I am going to convert it into a two piece barring any problems with a cut. I went ahead and took it to a shop to have it done instead of chopping it up myself. As much as the chinese like our scrap, I hate to push any their way.
I suspect I will be revisiting my pinion and clutch assembly at some point and making the cover into a "bikini" will make the work much easier.
Anyway, thanks for taking a looksee. I hope to have it together soon...I think I have all the parts I need.

OK, I see your plan.....it's just that I'm used to assembling the clutch shaft stuff after fiddling with the bevel gear cover seals.....yes, the split cover is pretty handy:)

As I am not used to anything concerning this project...I got antsy to get parts off the floor and into the tractor. I did check to make sure I could fit the guard on last before I put the shafts in place.
I will remember your suggestion if I go this road again sometime.
Thanks again for taking a look.

Bernie: Congratulations on your progress. It took me awhile to find this post. I remember seeing it after I posted that I had bought my 5T-D4. I put the brake pads back on it today. I looked for your post to see if I had them on right and I do. But I noticed a small problem, my ring gear seems to be on the opposite side of yours. The question to anyone who knows, is it possible to put the whole the cross shaft in backwards? The guy that I purchased it from was in the process of replacing the steering clutches and I bought the Cat in a basket. So I am trying to figure out how to put it back together. It seems to me, that if this cross shaft is in backwards I would have 5 reverses and 1 forward, that wouldn't be good
. Sorry I didn't mean to hijack your thread, but I just noticed it and thought I would get some advice on it.
Thanks In Advance,
Ken

Ken,
I think it is very possible to put it in backwards. I also think it would be easy to do unless you had a manual to compare it to. On my D42T it appears that everything is symmetric about the bull gear.
I cannot answer if the bull gear on yours should be opposite from what mine is. I suggest posting under a post that asks that specific question. You will get more hits that way.
Do you have any manuals? I have found my Parts Book(s); Servicemen's Reference; Operators Manual indispenseable.
Don't worry about the "hijack". Glad the post maybe helpful.
Post some photos-
