Putting a starter motor on the pony motor, I need a longer mag ground wire.  It has a 7mm spark plug wire currently for the ground wire. Can a use a 12 ga wire for the grounding wire?  I know to run it out of gas on the pony and not use the kill switch, but want it working just in case.

Yes, 12-14 gauge wire will be okay. Add some wire loom to protect it from chaffing or heat.
Please share some photos of your project please. We like pictures. JM

I have to relocate the starter solenoid as I won’t clear the hood. The money and effort was worth it as the pony motor starts so easy now.

Yessiree,, that has had to be done here a time or two. Electric pony start is the way to go if one doesn't go DE.
Did you already have the electric for the pony or did you purchase? I had a D2 that needed to be converted and it seems to have taken me major effort to find all the bits and pieces. I want to say it was an isolated incident. Thanks for the picture. JM

just give the bonnet the gurney bubble treatment or cut a hole so it clears it. kidding just mount it elsewhere. a electric start pony is the best of both worlds for these old girls.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
