Hello, on the magazine issue 161 he talks about this engine and I find it s very curious that it's not written in this article D 346 but RM 180 in all my brochure it's the reverse ?...

Hello Neil,
Thanks for the link.
What I know is that there are two D346 engines, one at 90° starting in 1962 and the other at 60° starting in 1969 on the B series/666 657.... Maybe the first one was renamed RM180 later to avoid confusing them but I have no document

The way I read the writer's statements is that the RM180 was the first engine, 90 degrees, and that that engine was replaced by the D346 at 60 degrees, partly to appeal to the industrial market since it was a more compact installation, as well as addressing other shortcomings of the RM180. But both were the same bore and stroke and intended to meet the same power requirements

Yes thank you I understood the same thing the person would be trusted but the problem remains the same except for this person who calls this type of engine RM180 all the papers sold by Caterpillar that I own the name D346.
