Folks, is anyone aware of a transmission that is like a planetary powershift, but instead of hydraulics to actuate the clutches and brakes, the transmisison used levers and over-centers?

Not sure I am able say for sure about the concept your asking about. But the early self propelled New Holland swathers (model 905 and 907 and maybe others) used a planetary gear box on each drive wheel. Each wheel had a stick, pushed forward it engaged a clutch pack for the planetary gears for forward motion and locked over center. Pulling the sticks back passed neutral it engaged a brake band and reversed you. I was told it had a lot of similarity to a Ford model T transmission in how the reverse worked.

Ah yes, thanks for responding Ray. Now that you mention it, I seem to recall something about the Model T gearbox being planetary and no hydraulics

I think that's also how Lenco car transmissions work. Not sure if the actuation is a band, but seems to be manual.

Funny you mention that Lenco Paul, I remember seeing some character on youtube put a six stage together out of Lencos and wondered if they were planetary based on the housing shape

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
