I just bought a new D2 and after i got it started i tried to move it and it had a knocking sound in the tranie. When you pull in the cluch it was knocking. well we started to load the cat on trailer i got it up about on and it sounded like it was not in gear it would just grind so i backed it off and got a little better run and got it on and then it felt like some gears were messed up what do i do and where do i start i am perty new at this thanks

Well, the first thing is to quit driving it (as much as possible)!
What is the serial number? Probably doesn't make much difference with the transmission like it would with the clutch. Any difference in which gears seem to be affected?
You will have to take off the seat and top covers to see what is going on in there. To remove anything, you have to pull the shafts from the back end, so any pto or winch back there will have to come off.
From further study, it seems the clutch shaft has to come out the front to remove the gear cluster and bevel gear shaft (top shaft in transmission), so if you have a later style clutch which is removable w/o pulling the engine, you would be well ahead. The lower transmission shaft is the one that has to come out the back if you happened to need to get into it that deep.
There's a lot of stuff right there on top like shifters and clutch interlock mechanism that could be the problem that would only require removing the seat and top covers to get to it.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D

2bluejon,
First thing I would do would be to remove the transmission tower.Really kind of self explanitory.make sure you put the transmission in neutral, this makes it alot easier to reassemble.Look and see if everything is still glued together,if it is my bet would be the lower set of gears have come unglued.the problem is there are 2 small screws in the front of the transmission that acts as a retainer on that shaft. This makes it a huge pain to repair if you have the older style D2.You will have to remove the engine to repair. If it is a newer one 13237 and up you might be able to repair without removing the motor.Even if you do have the newer style,be ready to stand on your head ,because to do this job right, it will be a real challenge. Been there, there done . GOOD LUCK COMPRESSOR

Are you sure it is not just the clutch slipping? There are parts that can come loose and bang around in there.

What about the external teeth on the main clutch disk comming apart? From initial discription it sounds like the tractor stopped moving when loading.
