This machine is a Sno-Blast -  the round circle at the left windshield spun are very high RPM, nothing stuck to it so visibility was good through that small area.
Memory serves correctly - blower head was powered with 335 cummins, did have Cat radiator as memory serves me --- Carrier (truck was also Cummins.
I worked for Leo -   Always a Roy-tan Panatella (cigar), and Pendelton Shirt rolled up above elbows, never saw a jacket or coat!
Art was also working when I became part of the crew in '72.

Not much snow in front of the blower - I have "cut" banks where the cutter bars (those veritcal grader blades) were burried - DEEP - slow going too.  Same machine.

Hope you all enjoy - this was sent to me and brought back lots of memories.

Donner Summit Historical Society has a lot of the history saved - you probably can find info on the web.

That boss of yours looked like he worked in the woods when he wasn't trying to get you to work! Neat. Better it be a Cummins than a screaming 2 cycle!
Thanks for the share. JM

JM,
of thirteen blowers in the Kingvale Maintenance Facility in the late 70's, only two were not GM powered! Nothing like a 6/53 & 12v 71 "screaming" for hours one end in one's ears.
If I remember correctly - one of those had a tag on dash - 104 dba!
The "blast" was a pure pleasure compared to the "modifieds" we had at that time. Modified's were Sno-Go's that the State rebuilt, from the power plants (all GM) to the "reels" instead of the "auger boxes".

nothing converts noise to fuel quite like a 2stroke GM. the power they could screw out of them for their day was surprising. and they had to be kept working between 1800 and 2100 revs or they had nothing.

"i reject your reality and substitute my own" - adam savage. i suspect my final words maybe "well shit, that didnt work"

instead of perfection some times we just have to accept practicality

CT Yes leo was a get it done type of guy, probably didn't always follow caltrans policy. Remember the bumper stickers circulated in the Truckee area the year following leo's retirement

"DONNER SUMMIT'S CLOSED AGAIN WHERE IN THE HELL IS LEO QUINN"

OH YES --- I REMEMBER --
YES - his crew got it done, we would have walked through buring coals for him. He was a great boss to work for.
