My wife took a lot of pics of doing this building site. The cut along the back was 540' long and 40' high at the highest point. Leveled the site to about 2/10' by putting the receiver for our laser right on the blade of the grader. Just listen for the beep. I also got up 3 videos on youtube. When I figure out how to stitch multiple videos together I'll put some good ones of dirt spilling over the top of the blade. www.acmoc.org/ACMOC_BB/images/smilies/wink.gif

OK Carl
Thanks for asking.
The work is being done in Eureka Ca. Zane road to be exact about a 1/4 mile from my house and 2 miles from the Headwaters forest. Done with a grading and filling permit and under supervision of a soils engineer. We have the market covered on this hill since any heavy equipment has to go over one of two wooden covered bridges, Berta and Zane. I have two D8's on this side.

The links to the vids are:

The road grader got a flat and my brother took the tire to get it repaired. Meanwhile I had to finish up grading where he left it... so I towed it out of the way. Makes for some cool pics. There's not much that slows that D8 down. The grader was cake.

A few more pics. I built a $500 ice cream truck into a dump flat bed and we haul our mini ex on it. We also use the D2 5j2520 on almost all the jobs. Been super reliable. These pics were a demo job in McKinnlyville Ca

I saw last week a guy do a similar thing with a straight blade on a D6R. He cut up a slope similar to what you first photo's show. When he got up there he started moving dirt like a novice would with a power angle. He had that tractor moving dirt off from the slope and over to the side of the cut like it was easy! I admitted to the owner that I consider myself pretty good but definitely not as good as his employee!
Remember, I am complimenting the skill of a straight blade cable operator along with an operator on a hydraulic straight blade!

What is the metalic-looking object in your fourth photo? I can't figure it out. GWH

The old D8's got over the bridge with out blades, bellypans, canopies, and winches. There was a long thread on the old board about it along with the recovery of both machines from the town of Klammath. When I did the math a 10 yd concrete truck puts more weight per axle than the lowboy. Is there any archives of the old baord?
We also got a 235b up there by walking it up the hill from hwy 101 behind college of the redwoods. It's heavy and is physiclly to big to go through the bridge.

The metalic looking object?? The belly pan.. only other mechanical issue was the drive shaft for the cable control self destructed.
