Looking for a service manual for my 1951 212 motor grader . On Ebay I have found service books for the D-311 motor which i have.  Where do I find the motor serial number, Because the brass tag next to the pony motor clutch handle is the same as the machine tag on the front left. The Book i found said for serial number 51B1-up  My serial number is 9T2277 both machine and motor. Am i looking in the wrong spot? Thank you

Hi, GraderManNH.
Back in those days, Caterpillar had a policy of matching the engine serial # to the machine serial # - policy dropped many years ago.

Hope this helps.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

To add to what Deas said, you need a parts book that is specific to the 9T2277, that will properly cover the engine, the 51B D311 is a completely different engine.

I’ve never found a service manual for the grader portion of a 212 either and to be honest I’ve never even seen pictures of one, I reference the service information from my 12 and 112 service manuals.  It will not help for everything but it helps within some stuff.
