Nice to see one like that in original colors, with the side curtains no less. Would you say it was originally a metallic silver/aluminum or a light gray? I have seen both.
Dave
It has only the original coat of paint and it is silver and black. Later power units appear to have been gray.
It has been sandblasted to bare metal and is recieving a new coat of silver and black paint.
A remarkably unmodified unit, and internally in good condition, other than badly pitted timing gears, and the normal fried exhaust manifolds.
Picture are during disassembly of engine. Some more pictures. It is unbelievable how much crud was in the timing gear cover. No wonder timing gears are so pitted and engine would not rotate. One of the dangers of trying to start an engine, when you cannot see serious issues. ![]()
Brian, was there a part exposed that allowed all that material in there? I can't imagine it came from running operations
IMost of it has anew shiny coat of silver paint now. Block will go back in its skid and reassembly will start.
