No kidding JM, great start so far.

18 Individual Donors so far, 19 with the Challenger included. That is only 1% of membership!

I know at least one of the Aussie Chapters is prepping a care package, throw some peanuts in the squirrel cage boys, let's crank it up!

This is exciting !!! (note the 3 exclamation marks). I am wondering if anyone donating is doing via mail? Not everyone likes to use the checkout feature of the online store.
Special recognition is in order for all of those who have donated. Hmmmmm? Fundraising challenge? Hmmmmm? I have not even opened my moth ridden wallet yet, but ACMOC is one of several that we will be making a year end contribution to.
Will there be a monthly/quarterly/annual target amount? So happy to see such generosity in short time. Keep it coming folks! JM

yes donation are nice. but we cant rely on them. other methods are also needed to keep the bills paid. note we only need to cover the regular expenses and have just a few grand in the bank for emergencies. when you have large sums of money it burns a hole in the wallet and gets spent easily. might be a idea to invest some funds in a term deposit and keep rolling it over only taking the interest to pay the expenses.

ive said it before raise money for a project, do the project and its done. move to the next project.

TK88. - You are right on. This is a great windfall for the club and it is certainly nice to see but will not on its own solve a longer-term financial problem, and we do need to be better at on-going fundraising. The dues we all pay only go so far and we can't expect them to cover operations and all the other things that members would like.

Your thoughts on raising funds for specific projects is right on the "money" (I couldn't help it).

The bigger deal is to get members to care. We all need to give thought to what the club means to us and would we like it to thrive. I will guess that at the end of this current donation event, we will have somewhere between 3% and 4% of members who have stepped up to help, that is not many. By saying that, I am not shaming anyone, it is just fact.

Think of what could happen if 10-20% of the members were willing to donate on and on-going basis? It could be game-changing. We have a number of projects that can be funded, I would love to put out a poll to see what ones members most want, but how many of us would respond to the poll? I have been given the advice many times in recent weeks to "listen to the members" and I am very ready to do that, how many will speak up?

The idea that models and store sales will support the club is mis-guided, there has to be more. While we are in the early stages of re-starting the model program, it will look different than it did, it has to because it hasn't been a profitable endeavor for many years despite popular opinion. So we have to look at other ways to support the club and deliver value to you and all members.

The board cannot do it all by itself, no board can. It will take an engaged membership that is willing to invest time and some money over the price of a membership for this club to thrive as it should.

so the current goal is cover the normal expenses for the year.
and yes models are nice and have been a money spinner in the past but there gets a point where everyone is all modelled out and the line up doesn't sell any more and merchandise is the same, you only want/need so many shirts, hats, socks, jocks (no matter what she who must be obeyed says) and others such as torches, like the models are a one off purchase. so a changing range is needed perhaps for models they could be supplied on consignment or fulfilment deal by a company that makes/retails models and we have a changing/rotating line up each year or 2 so the club isn't stuck paying storage fees. perhaps someone like Amazon could help with this. the club gets a commission on the sale.
the supermarkets have it down to a fine art they dont have items in storage for more than 90 days most stuff its sold within a week. i know we probably cant get to that but the idea is we dont carry lots of stock.

yes if every one gave $10 a year x that by 1500(i dont know the membership figures) thats 15 grand a year. maybe dues need to be reviewed. i think most could swing a extra 10 dollars. and here's a tricky question the club is a charitable organisation tax wise in the states so donations over the irs's minimum amount are tax deductible but what about overseas?

another idea is instead of using the heavy weight gloss paper go to thinner gloss paper for the internal pages of the magazine like all the commercial magazines have done for years such as nat geo, discover magazine, readers digest etc you get the idea. talk to the printers they might be able to do something.

i know theres a lot to unpack here. but sometimes my mind is just a stream of consciousness and stuff just pours out.
