This is my first post under this username, I can’t get logged in under my old user “GBCat60” since I no longer have access to the email it was setup under.
I realize the Cat I am inquiring about probably doesn’t qualify as an antique but here it goes.
I am looking at a D5SA 98J 1655. I have contacted our local dealer and they didn’t have info on this SN.
I am looking for any specifications but primarily HP, Gears, and drawbar pull.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
So far I have a D6B, 416D, and a 299D.

Hunter is it? Lol the wild and crazy cropduster Andy S. is a mutual friend on FB...I recognize the brush guard in your Avatar.
I own a D5 98J 1477 in addition 3 other earlier serial numbered machines, all ag machines. I want to say the 3306 puts out 105 HP, but I do have one with a 3306 that is turbocharged.
Logging in with as a member in the library, I do not see anything for the D598J, there is a parts book for the 21J which to me is pretty close to the same machine.
Sometime this week I can look thru my shop files for some old brochures or operators manuals that should have what you are looking for. I might be selling one of mine here btw. "Gee" aka Juiceman.

Yes guilty as charged! You must be the one Andy was making ACMOC gear for with the laser.
This one is a turbo 3306 I am looking at. I thought I read there was a serial number break which the HP changed but haven’t been able to verify.
What is it you might be selling?

Lol small world, I am guilty of many things myself...
This subject is somewhere in some old threads, as I questioned the specific engine in my first D5.
My D598J 492 is supposed to be equipped with a 333, but I believe HOLT in Stockton retrofitted it with a 3306 T. 1477 here is 3306 T from factory as far as I know.
Yes, Andy has made quite a bit of nice stuff for me. I might make some of it available to the membership.
Old Magnet, where are you? Memory tells me you dug up the serial breaks for me once regarding my old tractor? Thx.

We have been talking about the Cat Production Handbook, which should include the basic information for this question. Did club get one added to the library ?

Old Magnet, thanks for the reply! This one is a turbo 3306, any info on that?

I'm looking at parts book for 98J1591-up and it clearly states the turbo was for Normalization only.
Rack setting charts show NA 98J's to be rated at 120 hp w/fan. Sort of conflicts with the typical 105 hp rating.
Moving up the 3306 line for comparison to say the 99J1551-2166 with a turbo rack charts show 140 hp w/fan.

When you get to AG or SA tractors I suspect it becomes a minefield of various settings and horsepower ratings. I would hazard a guess that this tractor is set at 120hp, I am not sure what or if there were VHP D5 tractors, maybe the 140 setting is a VHP tractor setting, who knows? The Cat books often fail to cover all the iterations.
